Jack Grummett, known professionally as JackG,[1] is a rapper, singer,[2] and social media personality.[3]
Life and career[edit | edit source]
2011-2014: Career beginnings, first two EPs, and debut studio album[edit | edit source]
Grummett's online career began on October 17, 2011, when he created his YouTube channel.[4] His first video was a video of him singing a cover of "Sight of You" by Tulisa.[5][6] In addition to the video, Grummett also made two (now unavailable) live streams playing Black Ops II in multiplayer, starting a YouTube gaming career.[6]
He independently released his first extended play, Halloween Special, on November 1, 2014,[7] and then independently released his debut studio album, The Hottest Boy Alive.[8]
2015-2018: More independent releases, label releases, YouTube songs, and feud with Memeulous[edit | edit source]
On March 6, 2015, Grummett independently released his debut single, "Armageddon 2." The single release also featured the digital B-sides, "Wilberforce, Withernsea, Hull" and "Hood Boy."[9] On July 15, 2015, he independently released his second extended play/debut mixtape, TruBoy JackG Mixtape.[10]
On July 27, 2015, Grummett released "Playin" as the lead single from his second studio album Grip of the Summer.[11][12] On September 6, 2015, he released "Crazy Rich Tru Boy" as the album's second single.[13][12] On October 2, 2015, Grummett's second studio album Grip of the Summer was released by TruMusic.[12] On October 28, 2015, he independently released his debut mini-album, Tru a Ween.[14] On November 30, 2015, Grummett independently released his third extended play, Diss List.[15] On February 5, 2016, Grummett independently released "Rari Rari Rari," a standalone single.[16]
On July 18, 2017, he uploaded his first Trumix to YouTube, a Trumix of Selena Gomez's "Fetish."[17] Grummett later uploaded "Pop Trap n Pills," a collaboration with Ryan Tru.[18] On September 15, 2017, his song "Gangsta for Life" was released by BSD Records and Keyzit as a standlone single.[19]
On January 20, 2018, Grummett uploaded his song "Sex in the Money" to YouTube.[20] He followed this up with several other YouTube songs, such as "Jack Money,"[21] "Money n Narcs,"[22][23] and "Candy."[24]
On April 27, 2018, after a long hiatus from YouTube songs, Grummett's song "Mansion Party in the Sun," which featured fellow musician Marcuz, was released by TruMusic as a standalone single.[25]
On June 21, 2018, he rose in popularity following a video by YouTuber Memeulous. He uploaded "The Biggest Flexer of All Time," a video that criticised Grummett for his YouTube and Instagram content.[26] Following this, Grummett responded to him on July 12, 2018, with "JackG Reacts to 'Memeulous',"[27] a video responding to him and defending himself. Two days after this, he uploaded a diss track to Memeulous, "Memeulous a Lame," to YouTube.[28]
On July 28, 2018, Memeulous made another video on Grummet, "World's Biggest Flexer Makes Diss Track on Me," which responded to his video and diss track.[29] Since the video, Memeulous has not made any comments about Grummett.
2018-present: More YouTube songs, arrest, studio albums, and online content[edit | edit source]
For a while, Grummett continued to upload songs exclusively to YouTube.[30] However, on January 29, 2019, he was sentenced to imprisonment for several offences including fraud, perverting the course of justice, harassment, intent to supply a class of drugs, and possession of a firearm. Grummett was released from prison on December 16, 2019.[1]
On December 22, 2019, he announced his third studio album Criminal Genius,[31] though continued to upload YouTube songs.
On April 30, 2020, Grummett teased his debut mixtape I'm Your Saviour The Mixtape with his YouTube song "Don't Touch Me."[32]
On May 27, 2020, he teased his studio album I'm Conceited.[33]
On May 18, 2021, TruMusic released Grummett's third studio album, Criminal Genius.[34] Only ten days after the album's release, Grummett released the standalone single "They Tried to Kill Me."[35] On June 30, 2021, he uploaded a Trumix of "Save Your Tears" by the Weeknd.[36] On August 11, 2021, he released another standalone single, "Dead Prison Officers."[37] Grummett has not released anything or uploaded any songs since this, and has continued to upload regular YouTube content.[30]
